WalnutCrest Complete Organic Potting Mix for Mat/Wick Watering Systems This Potting Mix is specifically formulated for mat or wick watering systems and contains: Quality Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss (35%) Premium Horticultural Perlite (50%) Premium Horticultural Vermiculite (15%) DiatomaceousEarth, OMRI Listed and Organic Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculant for Optimal Root Development Dry Molasses (food for mycorrhizal organisms) Marathon Systemic Insecticide 4 Quart Bag WalnutCrest Complete Organic Potting Mix for Mat/Wick Watering Systems does not contain bat guano, earthworm castings, wetting agents or any processed materials which tend to make the mix heavy and sometimes prone to waterlogging plants. This mix is light and fluffy, promoting excellent drainage for healthy African Violets, other gesneriads, and many varieties of houseplants. Regular bagged AV potting mix generally has only the basic ingredients, peat moss and perlite. For the best growth, plant development and optimum blooming, along with systemic insect control, additional perlite and vermiculite and other ingredients must be added to the generic bagged mixes to make a mix that works in mat watering systems. Our Mix is hand blended and formulated to provide the optimum growing medium for all types of African Violets and gesneriads. It is light and loose and encourages strong root systems, healthy foliage, beautiful blooms and repels pests. This mix also works extremely well in self-watering pots. We have found that by adding a couple of handfuls of perlite to the bottom of the self-watering container and then adding the potting mix and plant, the plants flourish and blooms very quickly with a flush of new foliage - some can grow quite large. Our mix is shipped dry to lightly moist in a heavy duty plastic ziplock bag and ships FREE via USPS. Place the desired amount of dry mix in a small plastic tub (with lid), then add enough warm water (spring water is recommended to maintain proper pH levels) to the mix and stir until evenly moistened, but not wet. Once you have moistened the Potting Mix, secure the lid to the tub. You are then ready to go with potting your favorite African Violet plants. WalnutCrest Complete Organic Potting Mix can be used in self-watering pots, mat watering systems, in wicking systems, and just by itself in your favorite pots. Your African Violet plants will flourish and bloom. Please note the Marathon insecticide is an optional additive and available for those who desire continuous insect and pest control in the potting mix. Should you desire our mix without the insecticide, please let us know and we will be glad to omit the product from your custom mix. It is always recommended to w ear a mask to protect from dry potting mix particles and always wear rubber gloves when working with potting mixes.
